American Flag is an overtly political song cycle featuring songs “1969,” which uses the language of BDSM to depict the anti-climactic state of racial justice in America; “I Can Swim,” a boisterous dance track about freedom, fun, and resilience; and “Strange Body,” a hymnal ode about ongoing police brutality against black and brown people.
